about
- English below -
One can interpret this song in many ways; a farmer, bragging about his catch or a poor man, ridiculing the king's messenger? Regardless, it is an inventive and deliciously weird story. A similar text can be found in the Danish folk song "Bonden og Kragen" and the Norwegian "Den Store Kråka".

- Danish and English translations below -
Bonijn gjikkj ud i böjeskâu -
Fio, fio, falladera -
Ja, bonijn hajn spænde sijnn bâua for knæd

DANSK:
Bonden gik ud i bøgeskov
Fio, fio falladera

ENGLISH:
The farmer went out into the beech forest
“Fio, fio, falladera” (sound words) -
To fell a beech for a goose trough
“Kjærre, værre, veppom, falladera.”
Then he saw a crow in the tallest tree
And the farmer, he tightened his bow at the knee
Yes, the farmer, he tightened his bow at the knee
Then he shot at the crow, so she tumbled from the tree
Then came a message from the king’s hall
“Where is then that crow you shot yesterday?”
The crow I took home to my house,
Of the tallow I poured myself twelve pairs of candles
The head, we took for a church spire cap
And the beak we used as a beer tap
The meat we salted in barrels and tubs
But for a ham we saved for our father
The bowels we spun into tackle and rope
Of the feet, I made a driving plow
The rump we took for a beer mug,
Come here, good friends, and take yourself a draught!

Wonderful nordic songs, full of character and atmosphere. Feels very authentic and shows a softer and more playful side of parts of Heilung and other great artists collaborating on this project. velacy
